UPDATE: You can see it either on Newgrounds or an AVI version on Vimeo: www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/474831vimeo.com/2678603---------- Well, I'm working on what will hopefully be my first finished film (the first one I started was never completed because I picked the wrong software to make it in...) I'm going for a New Years' release date, although I might not manage to make it, since that leaves me just around three weeks (maybe less). It'll be a little over a minute long. The storyboard is already finished; right now I'm focusing on making the backgrounds, which I'm painting in ArtRage. I haven't painted in many years, so this is a big learning experience for me. So far, I have just over 20 backgrounds left to paint. Here are the first two: You can tell that I'm no painter like Ola. But I think I'll keep both of them because I don't really have the time to keep fine-tuning too much. Oh, and this is the music that I'll be using: www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/100798

Wow, very nice, get a great sense of ambiance just from those shots. Look forward to seeing the end product.

Those are really nice images Esn! You seem to have found a really nice style painting in ArtRage. I am using the software myself at the moment, and I really like it. But it takes some figuring out how to achieve the different techniques(:
I am looking forward to more images!
Cheers!

There is a real van Gogh feeling to that sofa image there(:

Thanks guys. I just painted this one in about an hour (by far the shortest time yet) while listening to MJTTOMB's new piece Surrounded by Snow. It was painted in the morning rather than at night like most of the others. Some of the others look rather dark with the morning glare reflecting from my monitor, though they look just fine at night. Ah well... You're not the first person to mention Van Gogh, Ola. Do you visit the ArtRage forums, by any chance?

Here's a reindeer that will be animated (galloping). It's made up of 10 pieces in total, each one on a different layer: head, neck, body, front leg (3 pieces), back leg (4 pieces). Once I get the individual animation for the front and back legs correct, I'll clone them and put in a slightly out-of-sync version behind them, so that there'll be 4 legs in total. Then I'll clone the reindeer so that there's more than one, add in a sleigh behind it, some snow, stars, etc. At least, that's the plan (I still have to learn exactly how to do all of that, but apparently it's possible). Does anyone know how I can "clone" this reindeer (with its 10 or more layers), after I finish the basic animation? Is there an easy way to do that in flash?

Sure, just tell me when you need some info about it. Make sure you create the deer animation within a movieclip or graphic symbol.

Whoops, never mind, I did it already. I had actually planned to be all finished by January 1st, but I'm a few days over schedule. Here's another image, until then:

Hey. If anybody's wondering, I am still working on this. Back when I was in the flow, I would have finished it in another few days. I had to stop working on it to work on another project ( this composition, actually), and then a lot of other university work followed. To use Yuriy Norshteyn's words, it is hard to get back into the same river once you leave it. Anyway, I'm slowly relearning things that I'd forgotten after a few months. I'm finding that painting faces, especially realistic-looking faces with subtle expressions in scenes with very weak light sources, is pretty difficult. I imagine I'll manage somehow, though. The film will be released next holiday season (though hopefully finished long before then). EDIT: Comparison of sketch and final image:
