And to give you a hint about what is to come, I am now releasing a little teaser loop for your eyes only, along with a image from that loop. Sound, music and animations will be added to this scene, it is not finished by a long shot It is in the middle of the night here, I should be sleeping by now! Please let me know what you think! The loop can be found here: www.goober.nu/h35787And by the way, if you wonder, nothing is made with 3D, it is all pure flash 2D animations ;D Have a great day!

Holy crappola cheesecakes wonker hodgepodge sea anemone! That looks awesome, Ola! But then, it was no less than what I expected when I saw the first image back in December. P.S. You should mention the "nothing is made with 3D" line within the Newgrounds comments when you submit it. I'm sure that nobody will believe you! P.P.S. Just a suggestion for the future - you may want to release it on Newgrounds in the second half of a month so that it'll be better-remembered by the top-2000 voters when the time for the monthly voting comes. Perhaps you've already figured this out.

Great work ola, really looks amazing in 3d and has a nice style. I love all those details you added, and the animation is just great, how the fingers move, awesome. Is the scrap metall in the foreground supposed to have that wire?

Let me guess: You mask the texture, right? The texture is a movie clip which have frames "turning" the texture, no? It would contain about... 20 layers? it is certainley nice work, though ^^ EDIT: By nice I mean incredible, really. There are few who is better than you in flash, Ola.. Me and my friends had a discussion about who's the best in flash. I mentioned you're name, but none knew of you, frustrated, I show them 'Nim's journey' and the new master of flash was absolute. We were choosing between the guy whom name i can't remember (Brackenwood author), MouseKliks (Final fantasy A+, Shoo Fly) and the guy that made 'There she is!' But I think you are the far more superior ^^ If you know someone that is better than you, please let me know!

You are on the right track there. Keep on guessing!
Thank you for your flattering words, still I believe I have loads to learn. Adam Phillips is the best flash animator I know of, the way he masters effects are just mindblowing. I believe he is experimenting very much with what can be done in flash, as I am. Every film is a new challange, and each one has its own theme.
I would not say I am the best there is, it all depends on what you like. I ave my style, others have theirs. I am looking for mood and athmosphere, not speed and violence.
If you find any good work out there, keep us posted!

I don't know, Ola, I always thought that YOU were the king of effects. I don't mean any disrespect to Adam Phillips by saying that, it's just that from what I've seen you have a tendency to tinker around with flash and other programs and techniques a lot more than he or anyone else I've seen does (or maybe when he uses them, it's not as obvious?). In any case, I do know that the black cloud in that follows Bitey in "the YuYu" was animated entirely frame-by-frame (by Phillips' own admission) - somehow, I think that if you had the job of doing that scene, you would've tried to use some really complicated flash tricks to get the same effect. I have no idea which approach is better myself (Adam's results are stunning on the one hand, but on the other hand perhaps there was an easier way); it's just an observation. And it's true of course that at a certain point it all comes down to what the viewer prefers, so it's not really possible to say who's the "best". Your approach is one that I happen to prefer over all others, and that's really the reason why "Nim's Journey" is currently #1 on my Newgrounds favourites list despite the fact that I only gave it a "9" in my review. ;D Speed and violence win you short-term popularity, but mood and atmosphere win you the critical praise that gives your work longevity, even if fewer people see it initially. And once everyone else has forgotten it, people with long memories will bring it up again and it will be "rediscovered" for a new generation. Notice how "Gooberstory" is once again slowly moving up through the Newgrounds ranks. It may even enter the top50 again. But anyway, back on topic - is the plan to release this film NEXT Christmas, since as I understand it is was a Christmas tale?

Well, I think Adam Philips is really good, but, seriously, you are the best Ola. Face it. And i'm not saying this just to "impress" you, It's really what I think! But, Adam Philips is really, REALLY good with FBF animation, have you ever tried to make a movie using that technique? (btw, on thing I always wanted to ask you, Ola; In Nim's Journey, is the characters mostly made of shape tweens or are they multi-layer motion tweens?)

Only time can tell what will become of us poor flash artists I would love to work with Adam sometime, maube when we are tired of our own creations...(: Anyway, tomorrow I am going to Denmark to participate in Flashvision, www.flashvision.dk. I will speak about flash animation in general and show some of my work. I will talk about H35787 and how I have used 2D to create 3D. Today I sat down with a good friend of mine and experimented with the soundscape of this short. I promise you, it will be a remarkable piece of work. I am still working on a little trailer for you to see, I will show it in Denmark. It will be exported to video, just so you can see the real quality in the right framerate. Anyway, see you later, cheers!
