hi, i am fabrizio i have examined the 2 tutorials about a background of nim's journey in the "how" section and i have some questions i hope you can help me.
questions:
1)in the second tutorial you say (Ola) that you made the texture of trees using the brush tool with 30% transparency and duplicated for the other trees but i don't understand if you did this texture manually or if it is done by some effect of the brush tool (i have an old version of photoshop and so i don't have the brush effects) and so how did you copy the texture fore the other trees...
2)i don't understand the fase when you used trees against the background, and applied the blending mode"colour dodge" to the new tree layers to blend them in the background. can you (be patient please!) explain it to me step by step telling me how i do it with the tools of photoshop?
and 3)in the last step you used the lighting effect,i tried this effect in my photoshop but there are a lot of settings and i never attain the result desired.wich settings did you use in this specific occasion?
thank you! anyway in the next days i'll read all the topics to find more informations
bye

Hi there fabrizio, and welcome to this forum. 1. The texture of the trees was done with a very thin brush. I drew all the lines manually for the first tree, all the lines was drawn on a singel layer. I then copied the layer and applied them to the other trees. I did not use any specific brush, just a thin brush with feathered edges.
2. In the layer palette you can find the Layer effects, the usual state of this effect is "normal". If you press this text, a menu will appear where you can choose different blending modes.
3. I always use different settings for each occation. I try until I think it looks good, the best way is just to dig in and try for yourself. Experiment a lot with different settings.
Good luck!
Ola
