Hi there, even if I have not yet updated the Nim's journey website for quite a while, I have still been working on the film. During the last month I have been continuing sketching the storyboard. I have also started to build Annas summer house in Swift 3D, just to make it easier for me to compose the background images for the first chapter. On this image you can see her summer house located on a field next to the deep pine forests. This image quite well describes what quality I am aiming for with this film.

Wonderful colours, Ola! And wonderfull detail! Is that dust from the car or fog? (probably fog... I can't imagine it being too dusty over there) I just realized that you structure your shots more like a live-action director than a typical animation director or a book illustrator. The shapes in that image (and in most of your films) are structured in a way which shows their somewhat messy (natural) reality rather than trying to make the reality fit into a certain artificial mould. Or, to put it another way, it's structured to emphasize the depth and natural "imperfection" that you would see if you were standing there rather than to emphasize that it's a flat, carefully structured drawing. Sorry if that sounds a little unclear. I can easily imagine a slow zoom being done towards the house from that shot. I also quite like how the trees were done. One possible concern (not really a problem, though) - while the colours of the house mix in well with the surroundings, the edges are a little sharp compared to the rest. Maybe some of the fog could overlap a small bit of the foreground of the house, just to make it seem even more like part of the background. It's very good as it is, though, I emphasize. P.S. How's the robot story coming along?

Beautiful texture, vivid colours, and a brilliant mood!
My only suggestions are: to darken the white wood frame of the house, and use one less window on the left side. Also, perhaps, use a circular window for the attic window as well. =]

Thanks for the comments Esn! I believe that to be early morning mist as the sun slowly warms the dewstained grass. The robot story has to stand back a little as I feel like getting somewhere with Nim´s Journey now. Maybe I should just make the robot film shorter than I intended, I have the tendency to make my projects a little bigger than neccessary.

Don't let a little thing like plans stop you once something really gets going. As long as you manage to finish it, that is. Besides, it seems like the season is all wrong - now is just the time that the landscape starts looking like the landscape in Nim's Journey. I look forward to seeing the next update on the diary.
