Hi, I'm just dropping in here. Found your old old old old old 2005 film on newgrounds and thought I'd pop by. However, I can see the websites are pretty basic with many missing pages. Have they been scrapped and is now just another derelict on the internet? These are links from the Nim's Winter thing on newgrounds. www.goober.nu/FlashSite/ -- incomplete, many missing pages. www.angelfire.com/music4/dearbhail/index.htm --Wrecked. Also it appears the main site is incomplete. www.nimsjourney.com/ --Derelict'd. Also, I know I'd prolly be hated for 999,999 years but about this project, is it a full length feature or a series of flash toons? Either way I suppose is good, but what has been done so far for the past 4 years? XD Thank you :-) I know my thread is seriously messed up but heres what I found. Good luck with the project!! Keeping it alive for 4 years... I'm really impressed.

Well, there is production blog here: kankuran.wordpress.com/And these forums of course. I think Ola just has periods of activity followed by periods of inactivity, and after a period of inactivity he partially forgets what he was doing, so there are pages floating around that seem to be forgotten and out of date. The last 4 months have been a "period of inactivity", but at least we got a nice first scene from the film at the end of last year. The project is going to be a feature film, and it is no longer being made in Flash but in Anime Studio.

Well it has taken 4 years. I'd wonder if this will ever make it to a full length feature... Surely too much work for one person?

Others have done it successfully. Nina Paley, for example (it took 5 years in her case): www.sitasingstheblues.com/Although it's not completely "one person", because I know Ola will be getting some help in the music and sound design department at least. It is certainly a hugely ambitious undertaking, but it is possible.

A little too ambitious if you ask me... and time consuming. Not criticising anyone though.
However, I find it hard to believe anyone would be willing to follow a project over 5 years.

If you have passion for anything which Ola does then time doesn't matter. It's the mindset of whoever is observing that seems like 5 years is a lifetime.
It is a blink of an eye.

Whatever you say... well some people live to 80... some 60... my predicted life expectancy 65... its a big chunk of anybody's life. Besides, 5 years have passed, probably another 5 to go. So in my opinion, its pretty big for a one man business. Im not criticising anyone, but it appears there is a good chance this project will die out before completion. What is needed is a development team.
Whatever it is, I'm not going to wait around too long, will just enjoy whatever is on offer now and take it as it is. that is good enough for me. I really enjoyed Nim's winter tale, its a rare gem, impossible to find things like this these days.

Hi there evaryone. Yes, it has been a long time since I posted here, and it has been very tought times. Nim´s journey will not drop dead, unless I do(:
So what has been going on then?
Since the financial meltdown I have been force to put this project to the side. And this has not felt so good at all. But luckily I now have a great job for the moment. I am am on a research team creating a learning MORPG for children in 1-3rd grade, 6-8 years old. I am responsible for the animations and the graphics of the project. I have been working here since March, so it is still quite a fresh project. At the same time my wife Johanna has gotten a really great job making a Stop Motion series for swedish educational telivision (Utbildningsradion). It is a really fun, but crazy project. We will animate 60 minute of film until November, and we work day and night with this aswell. So in these times I feel really lucky that we both can work with what we really want, namely animation. And in Sweden such opportunaties are quite few.
I will try to post some images on the forum or the blog as soon as I know if I am alowed.
And just so you know, Nim´s Journey project is not dead. It is resting, as usually(: 6 years are a long time, but since I began I now have two daughters that I do spend time with, Vilda is just about to start school, and I would be a fool thinking I could pull this project off in the coming years(:

I saw your demonstration of it on Youtube, Ola: www.youtube.com/watch?v=D94M-w_wqmIIt looks really beautiful, actually. I wish it was a "real" platformer so that I could have fun playing it, but I'm glad that you're making something so nice for someone.

Well, it is a "real" platformer ;D
I am right now developing the story, and I am looking for some people who wold like to volunteer for helping out with story, ideas, characters, dialouge, puzzles, etc.
I will open up a new thread about this and we are thinking about opening up a "secret" project forum for this.

I mean in the sense that it seems to heavily feature educational elements like learning basic addition, etc. - which are not as interesting to older players.
I'll consider helping if you like. It looks very nice already, though.
And the music from your website fits it very well. It just needs some "nature" sound effects to sound every so often underneath it, i.e. when the character goes over a bridge it could give a little creak, etc.

Congratulations on the great new job, Ola. I'm sure it is very rewarding in it's own way, as you can put your skills as an animator to use for the greater good of educating children, even if it does mean putting your beloved projects on hold. Wishing all the best to you and your family.
