This tale began with some sporadic sketches in my book a couple of years ago, since then it has developed quite a lot. After I created Nim’s Winter tale I knew I had to continue to explore this world. Nim’s Winter tale is a little christmas story, it is slow going with weight on atmosphere and mood. This project is different, not only that it is huge, but also more complex. What I want to do is to create a tale that actually allows imagination to work within our own minds, not to smash it into our face in with 100% action and effect. Parts of the story will be built up from my own experiences and imaginations as a child; I will use Swedish folklore as sources of inspiration, especially our nature. You readers will be my guideline along this rocky road, I realise it would be folly to try to do this by myself. I need your advice and support to see this through. All comments will be considered seriously. The story is far from done; I have decided to start with this. On the site I have published rough sketches of the first chapter of the film. I am dividing it into chapters so that I can concentrate upon certain areas and have more control. This is a huge project for me, but I am sure I have the knowledge to see it through, and I hope I will have the time, and that you will have the patience. On the website I will publish as much info as I can, my idea is also to create some tutorials and other materials for you to use. I hope I can give you all a different experience and a ounce of inspiration. If you have any comments or questions, please just post them here, I will try to answer each and one of them. Until then, take care!

Care to share some tales of the swedish lore that went into the film? Such as the oatmeal as an offering to the pixie...did you make that up or is there some signifigance? I would like to learn the vital details I may not know about...

Of course: Every winter, at Christmas time you have to give the pixies a bowl of porridge to thank them for the chores they have accomplished. Usually those chores are related to the animals of a farm or the farm itself, making shore the animals stay healthy and that the buildings are in a good condition. If you do not show your gratitude towards the pixies they might just burn down your farm, or kill your cattle in some dreadful way. There you have the main plot.

Do you still give them porridge?

Yes, some people do, mostly because of the children who think it is exciting. It is very common in the countryside, not in the cities.

Ola, if you're still having trouble deciding on a name for the girl one option to quicken things may be to start a poll and let everybody vote. You'd still have to decide in the end of course, but you'd get some idea of what people like. Also, have you by any chance seen Lotte Reiniger's 1926 silhouette film "The Adventures of Prince Achmed" (if not, you can see a good review with some images here)? That film and some other films I know ( Parajanov's last two films) that are based on fairy tales use a technique of dividing the story into chapters. It's a technique almost never used anymore, but it does provide a certain charm. So... yes... I'm just throwing a suggestion out. I don't know if it's a good one; you be the judge of that.

I hav so much to do all of a sudden, lots of posts to answer. I will check out on those films you are talking about! Thanks.

this story seems really interesting... if you need anything... hm... I may be able to contribute to the film in some ways... or I could just give you ideas and maybe sketch up some of my own characters for you to use?

Nothing is for certain.... I sort of think of Nim as somebody who's never really been abused; as such, he's never HAD to burn down anything yet. It would be interesting if his journey changes that sheltered nature and brings out that other side of Nim, if only for a while (before he takes the moral high ground and decides not to do it again, that is).

Well, if you take neither being under daily snowball-fire from Grällar nor being described as a total fib by grown-up humans for an abuse, then yes, Nim probably has never really been abused. As for me, I wouldn't believe Nim could attack anyone first or have some vicious personal revenge... Then again, first, pixies are said not to know good or evil, second, there's always the author and the living story, so... "Nothing's for certain", truly.
