But wait it isnt boring... just a crappy doodling around from me: jumi2.speedgeezers.com/flash/paint_an_fant.swfIts done really fast, i didnt watch the lines only took firsts and no undo Does anyone know how you can achieve the effect of actually drawing a line in flash? Yes... quite strange. ;D I like the drawing though (would be good as a character for an animation), but one question; what is that line going from top to bottom of his mouth (on the left) supposed to represent?

Does anyone know how you can achieve the effect of actually drawing a line in flash? You can use masking, or in this case, animate white objects to reveal the line underneath it. Do you get my point?

Yes ola! that would be a way... i thought there might be a magic button somewhere but like you said with masking its simpler then what my idea was (invloving shapetweening, a tad bit insane i think) I have to clear some things up, this is not my character, i only did it for testing stuff, its from a german comedian called otto. the line at the back/inside of the mouth? The straight one is the back of the mouth and the other one more right is the tounge.

So to bring this into another direction again, heres a little something i work also on: img.photobucket.com/albums/v161/spamheinz/Art/firehead1.jpgIts my first ever 3d modell, and i have still alot to learn, but its great fun doing things you can turn around everyway and sculpture. @edit: ah forgot to add the little animation i renderd:

Well, your thread had some real dynamite in it, I say. It is great that you have started out with 3D, very interesting, what software are you using?

;D Thanks ola, you are to kind.
I used Maya for that modell, its like 3dsmax, but i like the workflow more.

Since I know almost nothing about 3-D animation I can't say anything bad about it with any real credibility. However, since I'm generally a bastard about these things (hey, one's got to keep up appearances!) I'm going to nevertheless say something bad. It stinks. You obviously didn't put enough effort into it. The background in the animation jumps after a few seconds (must you hurt my eyes with this nuisance?!), and why would there be fires AND rain? It makes no sense. Also, the character doesn't have any nostrils and his eyes are not realistically rendered. I'll admit that I can't do anything better, but YOU should be able to! If you can't make something good, you shouldn't make anything at all. I will now leave with a puff of anger. *leaves with a puff of anger*

I do believe that you should be able to show your work to people even if they are not Pixar quality. Anything can be a inspiration to anyone. Think about it, we all are beginners in the beginning. I will follow Marios work with interest. Evolution is necessary. Example: www.androidblues.com/evolution.html

Aw, come on Ola, look at the rest of the thread! Wasn't it obvious that I was making a joke by playing up to the stereotype that Ark was accusing me of? Apparently not. Well I guess I shouldn't point fingers; MizzBlackBerry did the same thing to me on another thread. I used to hate this sort of thing when I was in Russia because they'd always say things like that with a straight face. And look, now I'm doing it myself. Anyway, would a truly angry person SAY that he would shortly be leaving in a puff of anger? I agree with you completely, of course. I said as much in the "Artist's Corner" thread; you don't get better by not trying, and you WILL get better with practice, no matter how bad you are. Maybe I should upload some of my sketches from two years ago to prove the point. They were truly terrible. Actually Mario, I thought it was pretty damn cool. I have no idea what you plan to use it for (if anything), but it looks good just by itself; I love the red hair. The background in particular really fits the character (and no, I don't really mind that there's rain and fire at the same time. I'm really not that uptight. It gives a nice effect, that's what matters .

;D I got the joke, but its wiser to put -> at the end when you are ironic or joking, it really helps in a forum. And you are right, the background/fire is all show and not really elaborate. I used rain to make dust/burnd stuff, wich isnt to good, i havent worked really good on the noose/mouth/eyes yet, he has no hair on his brows and etc pp, theres alot more to do for sure... he doesnt even have a neck, so its atm all whistles and show. ;D I did this animation real quick, so i noticed later that it doesnt loop all that properly, but it was only to see how the flames move. But Ola is also right, i have so far worked with maya for about 3 days at all and on this scene, so for a total beginner to 3d its pretty good. The head has changed quite alot since then, when i finally get the noose/eye/mouth sorted ill do an update, the i can go for skinning/texturing, maybe rig it up and let it move a bit and do another animation. Sounds like another month of work. Alot people underestimate what it takes to do 3d/animation/paintings, theres much much work involved. Countless hours, even for such a talent like Ola. How long again did it take him for one "simple" background? I guess countless hours. And i started a new thing, heres a quick sketch: WIP:maskfaceRight side of the face will be green/blue metal mask, left side darkblue clothing, just an idea wich i wanted to try.
