Shadow pixies are but one of many different creatures that prowl the Twisted Lands, spying and forever watchful, serving Them. Those small creatures of the dark can never be trusted, it is said that they can communicate with the shadows. Please give me your opinions about this little figure!

Kinda looks like a dark version of Nim, It's good, they sound very dark and twisted.

Yikes! That looks very good Ola - excellent use of shadows! To be fair I can't really say until I see how it moves - the face may or may not be a problem (what I mean is, the mouth and one eye are tilted slightly sideways, so it looks like there might be a problem if this guy turns his head. Or if it's done well - if the eyes/mouth don't appear to slide accross its face as it turns - perhaps not... it's hard to tell. What is clear to me is that if it's looking at you straight on, one of its eyes would have to be higher on its face than the other). I love that shadow that you put on the floor too - are you planning on doing that in the final movie? It seems like it would take a whole lot of work... OK, so how long did this masterpiece take you?

I think its a real "nice" bad guy, reminds me also of a bad nim and also of clint eastwood, the tilted looks and mouth, really mean. Looks like he anytime soon pulls something nasty out of his pockets...

Thanks guys, it is always great to hear your response.
I have not yet begun animating the Shadow Pixie yet, but that will be a challenge. As I am very eager that he should look and move as good as possible. One trick to not make the turn of the head look like sliding is to tilt the head a little up or down while turning. In this way it looks much better. One more thing to prevent eyes to slide sideways is to make them blink; we do it all the time. Try to turn your head without blinking, quite hard to do is it not?
I will have to see about that specific shadow, but of course there will be shadows.

Haha, thanks Ola, now everyone thinks I'm crazy because I'm sitting here twisting my head around with a strange expression on my face. I didn't blink, but thats probably because I was focused on it. Anyhow, I love the shadow dude, he's cute and menacing at the same time.

Another shortcut that you can use is the one that Adam Philips uses all the time - use fewer frames. Of course, that's not your style at all, Ola. Even if he blinks, though, the line of his closed eyes would have to not slide - that forest spirit on your website is a rather good example. You've done this successfully before. It's not just the eyes, though - the mouth also looks tilted downward to the creature's right side. It could still look good in movement, as long as you don't magically change the mouth into being symmetrical when he's facing you.

Yes, but it is hard to do that if you would like someone to turn his head real slow. Quick turns are always easier to do, like any motions. I will try to make the best animation possible, if I don't succed I will just give him a stiff neck. It is all in the power of the animator you see:-*

I am also very glad to see that you can turn your head without blinking, what I meant was, that we usually are blinking before we turn our head. To move the eyes without blinking at all does not feel natural, or al least not for me.... maybe I am the odd one

To move the eyes without blinking at all does not feel natural, or al least not for me.... maybe I am the odd one I've tried this out, and I find that I usually blink about a second after I turn my head. Blinking while turning my head, on the other hand, feels quite unnatural. Some kind of genetic survival trait, maybe? I wonder for what!

Well, the blinking thing is hard to tell, because, if you think about it you wont do the natural thing while turning the head... but i guess i am also blinking a bit while turning my head. I like the face as it is, you should see how some people look, it isnt off at all, if you do strong emotions you can do this kinda stuff. I think we will see if he will turn his head If i would try really hard to find something wrong with him i would say the eyes need more work, but sadly i am clueless why exactly. The pupils and this just dont seem to match exactly yet.

Yes, I am not sure about the eyes, I have changed them a couple of times. I am not sure if he should have any pupils at all. If you have any ideas, please let me know. I would like them to be as dead as possible.
