I like it!
What role will it play in the story?

Ahh, the raven is a predator and and one of its favorite meals are pixies like Nim. The raven will only play a little role int the intro of the film, as far as I can tell right now. But I would not be surprised if I end up using this character in other parts aswell(:

He kinda looks like an intelligent fellow. I can't put my finger on why exactly.
In the film, will he still have that painterly quality or will you need to convert him into a vector image?

The whole bird accually is in vector format, so the animation will have the same quality as on the image. That is the beuty of anime-studio. But then this will be video, not flash

That's amazing. It looks very much like paint. I hope it animates well also. I'm looking forward to seeing the video sample.

The colours are perfect on that raven. I totally agree with Es,n,however. When I think of a raven, I associate it with dark moody colours.... but I always picture it a little more fierce-some with piercing eyes and sharp talons. It does seem that it looks like it's pondering something; highly intelligent. I'm also hoping it will animate well, as it is painted so realistically.
Can't wait to see the video!

Just to clarify, I don't believe that the raven looking like an "intelligent fellow" is a bad thing; not at all.
There's no reason for all antagonists in a story to be very obviously evil-looking. So many movies do that, and there's something rather shallow about it. Ravens need to catch food to survive, so there's no reason for him to look malevolent just because he eats meat.

Ravens are very intelligent birds, and if you study the raven its does not really look that mean(: This bird is made more naturalistic that the usual cartoon. I will give you a videosample within days, and I you can decide for yourselves about the result

Ok, I have two very small pieces of video for you, one of a raven fly cycle, and one of the raven crowing and picking a bit. I am not yet saticfied with the flight cycle, it is a little stiff and not that organic that I would like, but I am not sure that I will need a fly cycle anyway, so this is more for the sake of it Then there is the other short video that shows a closeup of the raven, I have put on to much grain on this one. This is just so you can se how well Anime Studio works. Wow! It's really wonderful! It looks much better than I thought it would. I'm really happy that it looks like you'll finally be able to unify the style of your background paintings and character animations, something that wasn't possible before in Flash. The fly cycle looks almost as good as it can, I think. It's true that the wings should move up & down a bit further than they do, but I think it's already very good as it is - especially if it'll only be on the screen for a short time or not at all. The basic motion of the wings is sound. The second video is also very good. One little thing to fix might be making the "body" of the raven (the "belly" that you see at the very end of the video) just a little tiny bit more feathery, so that it's not a completely smooth line. Also, I'm sure you know this, but the eye of a real Raven is actually a little higher up on its face (as in this image) P.S. I don't understand this sentence...

Yes, I have been working hard to be able to find the tools and techniques to get the right style of the animations so that they mach the backgrounds Yes, I am not really happy with the motion right now, but I will put my energy into other more important matters. The main idea was just to show you the specific style, and how it looks artisticly(: Yes, I am aware of the stiff belly, This is not the end product, just a quicker sketch. I gues ravens look different as I have used a photo of a raven as a inspiration to this animated version, and the eye was positioned like this. P.S. The image is to grainy, lots of little dots(: Cheers

Thanks for replying, Ola. Please keep us (or at least me ) updated on what you're doing. Are those clouds in the background real, by the way? P.S. You know, just a thought... I'm thinking about why there are so few people here, and I think that it's largely not because of disinterest but because your updates are rare and irregular, so people eventually get tired of checking manually. If you wrote these updates in a blog rather than on a forum (or alongside), your fans could subscribe to an RSS feed of your updates, so that everyone would immediately know when there was something new. You could still have the actual commenting happen on the forum (just close comments on the blog post & have a link to a forum thread instead). I guess you already do that sometimes by sending out emails for major updates, but I think it would make sense to do it for minor updates as well! You also still have a lot of fans on Newgrounds... I think you should consider making a blog post on your NG profile that links people directly to this forum (that should also boost attendance).
